House Mouse, Senate Mouse

This story is called House Mouse, Senate by Peter W. Barnes and Cheryl Shaw Barnes. The characters are mice that represent the President and his whole cabinet. They give information about how the government is set up and run on Capitol Hill. I believe it is an interesting way for small children to learn about the different job it takes to keep society in order.

Journey to America by Sonia Levitin

This story is about is about a Jewish family who lives in Germany. They are planning to escape to America, but first the father had to leave alone to provide a home for them. After he left things made a turn for the worse. this story shows how a family struggles for their life and freedom from Hitler and his army. but nevertheless they eventually made it safely to America. I believe it has multiple uses like families being separated an the emotional feelings they have to endure. it teaches character education and is an emotional text. What do you think?

David's Drawings

I have a good story of David's Drawings by Cathryn Falwell. David is African American. He was entering a new school for the first time that day. On his way to the school he saw a very nice tree. It was wintertime so the tree had no leaves, just branches. When he settled down in his classroom no one paid him any attention so he started to draw the tree he saw. suddenly one girl approached him and told him she loved his tree, but it was missing something and proceeded to add leaves. Then several children did the same thing. When the tree was finished it looked like a tree in summer, but it was winter. What do you think is the problem with David's picture?

Helen Keller

Helen Keller is a great book by David A. Adler. Helen Keller became blind at age one. She had an incredible and extraordinary difficult time overcoming her disability. A teacher was hired to teach her how to become independent. She had a tough fight on her hand. I think this story will be great for children to read. It will teach them about being compassionate.

Baby Owls

Hi everyone this is Christine DeGannes. I read this great book about three Baby Owls, by Wadell Martin. One day their mother left them all alone in their nest. they did not know what to do. they wondered what happened and why she left? Well, she eventually returned and they were estatic. She told them they had no need to worry because she went to find food for them, but she would always come home to them.
I think this is a good story for Pre-Kindergarten and Headstart students who is trying to get over being seperated from their mothers. What do you think?
